This article is very informative on both the politics that are involved with schools and school reform and the opposition that will arise to attempts to change an existing system. Affluent outsiders swooping in to the save the day nearly always ends poorly (especially white, 26 year old billionaires) and there is great importance in a community's desire to help itself, from the inside out. It's difficult to know whether, if the funds had been allocated to local leaders rather than to appointed foreigners, the project and reform would have run it's course more smoothly. This article gives us a more intimate view of how difficult it is to attempt to reform an education system, while it simultaneously reiterates that money equals power. In the RTR program we will be attempting to reform the education of our students and we will face challenges, opposition and failure along the way.
